Description:Field Engineer with 4+ years experience installing, maintaining and repairing physical transport and/or wide area network equipment. Responsible for statewide provisioning and troubleshooting and repair of existing transport equipment for the Utah Education Network (UEN). A sound working knowledge of ROADM, DWDM, SONET, Cisco router/switch configuration and support is essential. Familiarity with large heterogeneous wide area networks and a demonstrated knowledge of networking circuits to include; gigabit Ethernet, metro Ethernet, OC-3, DS-3 and DS-1, plus experience with TCP/IP, OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, and supporting network applications, is required.

Duties:Selected candidates will be responsible for statewide provisioning and troubleshooting and repair of existing transport equipment. Will also be involved with the commissioning/test & turn up of new equipment on the Utah Education Network, including, but not limited to DWDM Mux Equipment, Cisco routers and switches, proper placement of copper and fiber as well as their termination. Install and maintains DS-1, DS3, OC-3, Gigabit Ethernet, short haul/wireless and fiber optic transport systems.

Position requires work that can be strenuous to include communication site improvements, including building cabling and equipment installation.

Position requires statewide travel and evening and weekend work as necessary.
Qualifications:Four years’ experience installing, maintaining and repair of physical transport and/or wide area network equipment. To include, a sound working knowledge of ROADM, DWDM, SONET, Cisco router/switch configuration and support. Familiarity with large heterogeneous wide area networks and a demonstrated knowledge of networking circuits to include; gigabit Ethernet, metro Ethernet, OC-3, DS-3 and DS-1, plus experience with TCP/IP, OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, and supporting network applications, is required. Strong trouble-shooting and diagnostic experience with Fiber & Fiber MUX test equipment (OSA, OTDR, CD, PMD, Power Meter, Fiber Scopes, etc.). Must be able to read and understand circuit layout records, diagrams and schematics.

Alternate qualifications: Degree in Computer Science, Electronics or a related field or an experience equivalency that includes but is not limited to, military and/or industry. A strong fiber optic background and understanding is required. Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), and previous WAN network experience strongly preferred.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Position requires statewide travel and evening and weekend work as necessary Must be able to lift/carry 40 lbs. Must be able to climb an eight foot ladder and use hand tools. Must be willing and able to ride in a helicopter, operate a snowmobile, operate a four wheeler and tow a 12’ work trailer with a work truck.
