| Location: | Salt Lake City, UT | | Salary Range: | Negotiable | | Employment Type: | Full Time | | Employer: | University of Utah | | Description: | The Director of Marketing leads the strategic planning and implementation for all Continuing Education (CE) marketing and public relations activities. Incumbent collaborates with CE's administration and ten program directors to identify opportunities, allocate resources, develop marketing messages, and execute marketing programs that deliver results for new and existing CE programs and classes. The incumbent provides leadership to the four-member marketing team and external graphic designers and copywriters, and interacts with other campus and community entities (including central University Marketing & Communications) to ensure brand consistency and message alignment. | | Duties: | 1. Strategic Planning:
- Develop ongoing marketing strategies to support the continued growth of CE programs (including but not limited to Academic Programs, Lifelong Learning, Youth Education, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, the English Language Institute, Utah College Advising Corps, Technology Education, Professional Education, Distance Education, Test Preparation, and off-campus locations).
- Create and manage marketing programs to internal (University staff, personnel, and students) and external (marketplace/community/industry) customers.
- Generate revenue by developing market potential through traditional and non-traditional marketing techniques.
- Lead and manage the implementation of the PR/communications plan.
- Develop and manage web/online strategy overall and by CE program, including integration of social media as appropriate.
- Collaborate with each CE program director to ensure transparency in marketing activities, budgeting, etc.
- Assist in setting marketing and department-wide short and long-term goals and objectives.
2. Execution and Integration:
- Function as an ongoing marketing resource for program directors and the leadership team.
- Lead one-on-one planning sessions with each program director to determine marketing strategies to promote the program to the appropriate audience segments.
- Collaborate with internal marketing communications department, web, and leadership team to develop and execute integrated campaigns across appropriate media including print, radio, direct mail, PSAs, online, and events.
- Oversee relationship with external designer/copywriter team to execute creative strategies.
- Analyze tracking data to determine ROI on various marketing efforts and/or activity.
- Manage marketing department budget, including annual planning process and daily oversight of accounts/receivables. Forecasts budget needs in collaboration with CE program managers.
- Facilitate cooperative and collaborative relationships with the community, other institutions, and other U of U departments.
- Supervise marketing staff, including hiring, training, and retaining exceptional staff.
3. Program Development:
- Define and identify market and program opportunities, assist in program development, and construct implementation plans for the identified market and program.
- Develop and implement marketing, PR, and online objectives for CE programs consistent with the University's goals and objectives.
- Apply knowledge of program environments, segment audiences, market opportunities, and competitor programs and offerings to develop targeted campaigns, tactics, messaging, positioning, and sales strategies.
- Identify and support the recruitment of internal and external partners as appropriate.
- Work with program directors to identify opportunities and implement plans for revenue growth.
| | Qualifications: | Qualifications
1. A Bachelor's degree in related area or equivalency
2. Four years of full-time, progressively more responsible related agency or in-house marketing and management experience that includes:
- proven experience writing marketing plans, creating marketing strategies for a variety of clients with differing audiences, and using marketing metrics to gauge success
- general knowledge of public relations concepts and processes
- demonstrated understanding of and experience with social media as a marketing tool
- experience planning and purchasing advertising in a variety of mediums
- project management experience in graphic design and creative for print, outdoor, web, etc.
- managing websites and web development (design and content)
- familiarity with standard graphic design software, including Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign
- experience creating and analyzing audience surveys
- writing and editing a variety of materials for a range of audiences (writing samples may be requested)
3. Demonstrated successful supervisory experience.
4. A commitment to provide excellent customer service to in- and out-of-house clients.
5. Demonstrated human relations skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a diverse group of in-house program directors, university marketing personnel, private agency contractors, faculty, and the general public.
6. Proven experience creating and managing departmental budgets, including annual planning and daily supervision of Accounts Payable and Receivable processes.
7. A self starter, multi-tasker, with a sense of urgency and ability to take direction.
8. Exceptional leadership skills, group facilitation skills, and written and oral communication skills.
9. Experience in the nonprofit or education sector preferred.
Work Schedule
Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm
