Description:ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Responsible for the testing and release of raw materials and in-process goods.
2. Demonstrates skill and proficiency in the following techniques:
a. HPLC
b. GC
c. FTIR
d. UV/Vis
e. AA and ICP
f. titrations
3. Accurately prepares solutions including HPLC mobile phases, analytical reference solutions, and sample solutions using appropriate volumetric glassware and equipment.
4. Demonstrates competency in the use, calibration, and maintenance of general laboratory equipment and glassware, including:
a. Analytical balances
b. Pipets
c. ,pH meters
d. grinders, etc.
5. Navigates applicable software, such as Millenium and Empower for HPLC, in the operation of analytical equipment in order to set up, run, and modify methods, analyze data and report results.
6. Oversees the calibration and qualification of laboratory equipment, particularly instrumental systems such as HPLC.
7. Maintains and services laboratory equipment where applicable
a. Performs routine maintenance as necessary
b. Maintains service contracts and contact with service providers to ensure the proper function of equipment.
8. Participates in the stability testing program for determining product shelf-life.
9. Records results of analyses following GMP/GLP guidelines. Reports results for internal review and communication by established formats.
10. Interprets data and tracks trends. Monitors problem materials. Offers appropriate recommendations to management.
11. Under the direction of laboratory management:
a. Reports non-conformances using appropriate format
b. Interacts with applicable departments in relation to testing issues
c. Determines specifications for existing and new raw materials and finished goods
d. Develops long-term projects for the improvement of the laboratory
12. Develops analytical methods for new and existing raw materials and products.
a. Documents new methods in standard operating procedure format
b. Under the direction of management, interacts with representatives of vendors and third party laboratories in the sharing of analytical data and information pertaining to methodologies.
13. Validates analytical methods.
14. Demonstrates proficiency in general laboratory operations:
a. Record keeping – written and computer
b. Notebooks and logbooks
c. Organization and retrieval of archived data
d. Calibration techniques
e. Inventory/ ordering lab supplies
f. Laboratory safety compliance
g. GLP, GMP, and USP standards and methodologies
h. Broad knowledge of standard chemical laboratory procedures and analytical techniques.
15. Under the discretion of laboratory management, directs the daily activities of other chemists and/or laboratory technicians
a. Assumes responsibility for the efficient functioning of the lab, including good communication and co-operation between personnel
16. Maintains laboratory in a state of audit-readiness
a. Assures that standard operating procedures are complete, accurate, and correctly followed. Writes new SOPs and revises existing SOPs as necessary.
b. Trains other personnel in the application of SOPs.
c. Assures that calibrations, logbooks, and other documentation are complete and accurate.
d. Assures laboratory procedures are up-to-date with current industry regulations.
e. Documents all validations of analytical methods and qualifications of instruments.
17. Computer skills to include the following:
a. Microsoft Windows
b. Microsoft Word
c. SAP
d. Microsoft Access
e. Microsoft Excel
f. Waters Millennium and/or Empower
18. Evaluates the work of laboratory technicians and colleagues.
19. Stays abreast of emerging technologies. Evaluates developments in methodology and instrumentation, and makes appropriate recommendations
