Description:The Associate Director of Grants and Contract Accounting reports directly to the University Controller and is the responsible leadership position providing management and oversight for post award accounting and compliance for awards totaling over $400 million. Develops and implements policies, programs and financial objectives for assigned department. Ensures quality customer service for extensive and diverse internal and external constituents. Duties:1. Plans, directs, monitors and coordinates the financial and accounting of post award sponsored project activities in accordance with federal/state regulations, generally accepted accounting principles, University policies/guidelines and sound business practices.
2. Serves as the focal point for post award sponsored project activities. Maintains and enhances partnerships and collaborations between the University, faculty, staff, governmental funding agencies and other critical partners.
3. Manages and supervises the workload and performance of post-award personnel including two managers and a staff of fourteen.
4. Develops and implements customer service, human resources and financial objectives for department consistent with the University�s goals and objectives.
5. Ensures financial system capabilities are being used to address critical accounting and reporting needs.
6. Represents and speaks on behalf of University at national leadership events, to campus community for training and other collaborative efforts.
7. Partner with pre-award Sponsored Projects personnel on establishing and executing University wide initiatives, priorities and training.
8. Manages departments� budgets, estimates budgetary requirements for special projects and oversees purchases and inventory.
9. Implements and administers new and existing department programs and services to internal and external customers. Evaluates program effectiveness.
10. Assumes authority and performs functions of the department director in his/her absence.
11. Participates in the development and interpretation of department guidelines to ensure compliance with the University�s policies and regulatory requirements. Ensures compliance with Federal and state regulations.
12. Establishes internal objectives and implements procedures to meet goals. Assists in setting department short and long-term goals.
13. Oversees department human resources management including recruitment, performance evaluations and retention of staff.
14. Ensures customer satisfaction by analyzing customer complaints, concerns and suggestions. Provides appropriate follow through to ensure quality customer service.
15. Facilitates cooperative and collaborative relationships with the community and other institutions.
16. Authorizes the purchase and implementation of new technology, resources and equipment.
17. Serves as part of the department management team.
Qualifications:Bachelor�s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration or related field; plus four years of progressively more responsible management experience; demonstrated leadership, human relations and effective communication skills also required. A thorough understanding of technical accounting theory including federal regulations A-21, A-110 and A-133.

Proven leadership in a highly complex business environment. Demonstrated experience in communicating effectively and working collaboratively in a team environment, with an emphasis on problem solving, taking ownership, and providing excellent customer service.

PREFERENCES
Master�s degree and/or CPA preferred.
Experience in higher education or state government a plus.
Experience in financial system implementations and knowledge of PeopleSoft/Oracle software a plus.
