Description:Performs varied support functions, including gathering and contributing information of materials for research projects. May include field and/or office duties for a comprehensive 5 year study of a neighborhood. Some field work includes outdoor assessments of physical features of the neighborhood. Other field work includes neighborhood-based recruiting, scheduling, and meeting with research participants. Must be reliable and trained to work with field laptops or surveys. Recruitment and interview tasks require establishing good rapport with adult research volunteers. Office work can include collecting, compiling, scanning and cleaning data, preparations of research equipment and field supplies.

Duties:1.Schedules appointments, visits and meetings to complete research with research volunteers in their homes or neighborhood settings. This includes either door-to-door or phone recruitment and requires organizational skills, reliability, and keeping appointments.
2. Compiles data from a variety of sources including one-on-one interviews, data bases, physical settings, and literature sources.
3. Enters information into department�s computer system. Maintains up to date files and records of research data.
4. Office work includes assisting research employees in preparing or editing data. This may include scanning and correcting data from scansheets, updating scheduling and tracking system, providing mail or email reminders, and recharging and inventorying electronic equipment and field supplies. Office work may include assisting with manuscripts and presentation materials by consulting with reference works or data bases and creating slides, charts, graphs, graphics and handouts.
5. Consistently communicates with project directors regarding special inquiries from research participants and adheres to university informed consent procedures regarding preserving confidentiality and anonymity
6. Maintains an internal library on project information resources and data collected. Performs quality control to resolve discrepancies and overlaps with respect to data gathered

COMPENSATION
$10 to $14/hr � depending on field research experience

WORK SCHEDULE
Part-time position, 19-40 hours/week. Flexible schedule requiring some weekends and evenings.
Qualifications:One year research experience or equivalency; demonstrated organizational and communication skills; and a commitment to provide excellent customer service required. An understanding of research protocols and procedures preferred.

PREFERENCES
For university affiliated applicants we prefer social or health science major who has taken research methods. For recruiters and interviewers, familiarity and expertise with Fairpark, Poplar Grove, Westpointe, Jordan Meadows, or Rose Park neighborhoods preferred. Prefer experience with U.S. Census, National Children�s Study, or other neighborhood-based studies with adults. Interviewers and recruiters must be comfortable learning custom computer procedures associated with research equipment, data collection, and scheduling. For office workers, familiarity with Microsoft Office preferred. Spanish speaking desirable but not required. Field researchers must be able to provide their own transportation to the research site, about 5 miles from the University of Utah. Once trained field researchers must be comfortable recruiting door-to-door and using laptop protocols. Temporary, non-benefited position. Salary is based on field research experience and is restricted by funding.
