Duties:Using personal development skills, you will be responsible for design and development of new features and capabilities for Pearson Data Solutions agent development, which enables interoperability between many educations software systems. You will also be responsible for working with business analysts and product management to define product requirements. You will be part of a cross-functional development team consisting of developers, testers, quality assurance and implementations personnel to design, develop, test, debug, and launch high quality applications and solutions in multi-year enterprise application integration projects.

JOB SUMMARY:

Design, develop, and configure interfaces to educational data systems, working with stakeholders and contributors both within and outside the company. Develop reliable project timelines. The work will primarily be based in Java to design, develop, test, and deliver against those timelines. Contribute to design and code reviews, regression testing, documentation, and QA to ensure top-quality software.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES:

* Plays a role in software development process by leading or participating in the conceptualization, design, planning, specification, development, documentation, training and testing of company's frameworks and development products.
* Works as fully contributing team member or technical leader on important projects and activities of diverse scope

* Works under general direction of managers or other technical leaders within broadly defined framework
* Continues to acquire specialized functional knowledge, more complex skills and operating practices
* Builds collaborative work relationships across the organization and delivers solutions also to external customers on specific issues
* Remains flexible and responsive to changing priorities and multiple, concurrent responsibilities
* Assumes responsibility for delivery of quality outcomes for assigned projects and products with consideration of functional business goals and financial objectives
* Responds promptly and professionally to bug reports
* Responsible for analysis of current programs including performance issues and incorrect application behavior
* Documents code consistently throughout the development process, following department conventions
* Contributes to product maintainability and reuse, code reviews, unit testing, regression testing, performance testing, problem determination and resolution, and documentation while adhering to development conventions
* Provides assistance to testers and support personnel as needed to determine system problems
* Provides excellent intellectual property stewardship by adhering to specified, software source code control systems, coding and documentation standards, discussion databases, incident tracking systems and CRM systems
Qualifications:QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:


* Should have a bachelor's degree in Computer Science; or related field; or equivalent work experience. Should have 3-8 years of experience in software development.
* Experience (3+ years) in J2EE, Web Services, JSP, Java Application Servers, CSS, HTML, and Java Script. Proficiency in Java and in Object Oriented development techniques and API's. Experience with .NET a plus.
* Knowledge of Structured Query Language and relational database design considered a plus
* In-depth knowledge of XML, XPath, XSD, Web Services, and Message Oriented Middleware a plus
* Excellent verbal and written communication (demonstrable) skills required, including the use of productivity software, Microsoft Office products, and remote conferencing tools
* Experience (2+ years) with the Schools Interoperability Framework (SIF) and/or educational data models a huge plus
* Experience and ability to lead and/or participate in teams and in group discussions
* Proficient knowledge of standard development tools
* Good knowledge of security and encryption, including SSL/TLS
* Strong knowledge and experience in multiple deployment and delivery platforms (WIN, Linux, Netware, OSX)
